Douglas College First Aid Courses

The Douglas Students’ Union is hosting Red Cross Emergency First Aid courses.  These courses are being held for DSU fee paying members only (paid Student Union Fees) and a portion of the fee will be subsidized by the DSU.

There are 3 courses available:

  • Emergency First Aid/CPR C is a one day basic course and your fee is $50.00 (tax included)
  • Standard First Aid/CPR C your fee will be $50.00 for the 1st day and $65.00 for the 2nd day for a total of $115.00 (tax included)
  • Emergency & Standard First Aid/CPR level BLS (required for nursing students) your fee will be $50.00 for the 1st day and $75.00 for the 2nd day for a total of $125.00 (tax included)

EMERGENCY FIRST AID / CPR LEVEL C

SFA 027This 8 hour course includes choking skills, breathing emergencies and CPR for all ages. The course also covers heart attack, stroke and bleeding skills.  Certification in AED is included.  It is recommended for the general public, medical professionals, teachers, fitness instructors and personal trainers.  The course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Red Cross 3 year certification issued upon successful completion.

STANDARD FIRST AID / CPR LEVEL C

This 16 hour course is taught over 2 days. It includes everything in the EFA course and is designed to teach the skills required to handle life threatening emergencies. It also includes care for traumatic emergencies, some medical conditions, head and spine injuries, fractures, burns, poisons and certification in AED. It is recommended for police officers, teachers, caregivers, fitness instructors and massage therapists.  The course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Red Cross 3 year certification issued upon successful completion.

EMERGENCY & STANDARD FIRST AID / CPR LEVEL BLS (Basic Life Support)

This 17 hour course is taught over 2 days. It includes everything in the SFA but the CPR is level BLS.  This level is designed to build participant confidence in performing the highest level of skills and provide the steps to perform rapid assessment and rapid defibrillation. This course is required for nursing students at Douglas, and recommended for care aides, medical and dental professionals, fire service, sports medicine, life guards and ski patrol. The course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.  Red Cross 3 year certification issued upon successful completion.

  1. Fill out the registration form below and select the course you are interested in. Remember to complete the verification before submitting the form.
  2. We will confirm with DSU that you have paid your Student Union fees.
  3. If space is available you will be contacted to process your payment.
  4. Once your payment has been received we will send an email confirmation.
