First Aid / CPR Instructor School

Have you ever thought of being a Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor? Certified Red Cross instructors are able to teach Standard First Aid, Emergency First Aid and all levels of CPR. Further courses or home study packages are required to teach other Red Cross First Aid programs.


Pre-requisites:

Candidates must hold a current Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (or equivalent) and be at least 18 years of age.


The Instructor School:

The course is 36 hours in total and held at Douglas College, New Westminster campus. The first 4 hours is a skill testing session (done in 1 evening) to ensure your skills are at a high standard. The remainer of the course is run over 2 weekends (Sat & Sun) from 9-5 to complete the 32 hours.

The course consists of sessions on teaching styles, learning styles, evaluation techniques, manikin maintenance and a section on the Red Cross. You will have opportunities to do teaching with your peers, and be evaluated by your instructor trainer and your peers. After you have completed the classroom component of the instructor school there is a co-teach component where you will teach with an experienced instructor and receive feedback on your performance.

First Aid / CPR Instructor Recertification Course

Courses are held at Douglas College, New Westminster campus. Pre-requisites are to have taught at least 3 First Aid courses during your 3 year certification period (there is a consideration clause if SFA has not been taught). Instructor Recertification courses are 8 hours in length and have a skill testing and professional development component.
