Owen's Testimonial: Hey guys! Just wanted to reach out and say I never hoped I would have to use my First Aid training but ended up using knowledge from my training this morning. A lady fell to the floor in front of me at the passport office and stopped breathing. Things happened exactly as you said would happen: everyone around went into shock and didn’t move. I initially kneeled beside her for about 30 seconds trying to speak to her and trying to remember my training. I got someone to call 911 and locate the first aid kit. As I tried to recall my training, I struggled because I was pumping with adrenaline. It became difficult to recall my training, especially because I had about 50 people staring at me, thinking I was going to control the situation…it put a lot of odd emotions through my head.

As I tried to keep calm, I remembered our training and started tapping her and loudly speaking to her. I checked her breath after taking her mask off and looked down her chest…no sign of breathing was present. I pondered if I should try and locate a mask protector before starting CPR and breathes. But I didn’t think there was going to be enough time, so I was going to start without it. Just before I was about to start, she opened her eyes and took a large breath in… That was probably the best feeling in the world.
